Is it Time for a New Toothbrush?

by Perryville Family Dental | Jul 1, 2022 | Dental Care

Is it Time for a New Toothbrush

Are you wondering: Is it time for a new toothbrush? Knowing when to replace your toothbrush is important to ensure your teeth are cleaned thoroughly and effectively! Here’s how to tell when it’s time to toss out your old toothbrush and replace it with a fresh one.

Why Does it Matter?

Using a toothbrush that is in good condition is important because the condition of your toothbrush directly impacts how effective it is at cleaning your teeth! You wouldn’t want to waste your time brushing with a toothbrush that doesn’t clean the surfaces of your teeth thoroughly.

Signs Your Toothbrush is Old

Knowing how to answer the question “Is it time for a new toothbrush?” is easy once you learn what to look for. The bristles on a toothbrush that is becoming old will often start to look worn out. Signs might include fraying at the tips of the bristles or fading of colored bristles. If your toothbrush is more than three months old, that’s another sign that it’s time to replace it.

Shopping for a New Toothbrush

When the answer to the question, “Is it time for a new toothbrush?” is “yes,” it’s the perfect chance to find out which type of toothbrush is best for your dental care needs so that you can ensure you’re really getting the most out of your brushing.

General things to look for include soft bristles and approval by the ADA (American Dental Association). But additional things that can be helpful might also include a built-in timer, pressure sensor, or the capability to connect with a smartphone app to support good dental care habits and proper brushing technique.

Brushing doesn’t have to be boring, so don’t settle for a toothbrush that doesn’t help you meet your dental care goals.

Ask Your Dentist

If you have questions about finding the right toothbrush for your needs, your dentist is here to help! Don’t hesitate to ask any questions that come up! Your dentist will be happy to do whatever they can to help you find the best tools for your dental care needs to ensure that your brushing is as effective, efficient, and enjoyable as possible!

Call our Perryville Dental Office to make an appointment with a dentist who may be able to help you find out more about this topic, and improve your oral health.
