Caring for Your Teeth on Vacation

Caring for Your Teeth on Vacation

Summer can take us to many new directions and places. With all the fun and change, it’s vital to keep up with the important parts of your normal routine to ensure that you’re taking good care of your wellbeing and health. Let’s talk about how that includes your teeth and what you need to know about caring for your teeth on vacation.

What to Pack

An important step to caring for your teeth on vacation is bringing the right tools you’ll need! The basics include a toothbrush, toothpaste and roll of floss, but it may also be helpful to bring a few additional items such as mouthwash for times when you can’t access fresh clean water to brush your teeth after eating and a dental pick to help remove food particles when it’s inconvenient to pull out a whole strand of floss.

It may also be helpful to search for travel-sized tools and products to help make your dental care necessities more accessible. If your toothbrush or mouthwash is in your suitcase, you’re a lot less likely to use it while on the go than if it’s in your purse or shoulder bag.

When You Need a Dentist

Unfortunately, there may be times when you are on the road or in a far away location and a dental emergency happens. It may be dental trauma like a broken tooth or a cavity that has progressed to the point where it simply cannot be ignored any longer. When this happens, it’s important to get in touch with a dentist as soon as possible rather than waiting until you get home. Urgent treatment often results in the best outcomes, so don’t delay if you’re faced with a dental emergency.

You can always call your dentist to ask for recommendations and tips on finding a reputable dentist in another town or faraway place and to ensure that your dental records and history can be transferred if needed.

If you’re planning on traveling for a long period of time, it may also be a good idea to get a dental cleaning done before you leave. It’s important not to go more than 6 months or the recommended time your dentist has advised you to visit a dental office for routine care. Therefore, being proactive can make things easier than trying to find a dentist for regular dental care while on the road.

A Vacation for Your Teeth

Caring for your teeth on vacation doesn’t have to be complicated or difficult. In fact, it can be fun and adventuresome, too! The next time you go on vacation, maybe try a different flavor toothpaste, floss or mouthwash to create a spa-like experience for your teeth that invigorates and refreshes your senses. Dental care can be an important form of self-care, so pamper your teeth and gums and enjoy it fully!

Call our Perryville Dental Office to make an appointment with a dentist who may be able to help you find out more about this topic, and improve your oral health.
